PHD Media visit 7th November 2024

Chaivut Eiamvuthhikorn, General Manager, PHD Media, Thailand, (https://www.phdmedia.com/thailand/) visited the International College, KMUTNB, on Thursday, 7th November and gave a superb short talk on storytelling through presentation to 3rd-year students.  The talk included an activity and presentation by students. Using an Orange Telecom (True’s precursor) advert as a base (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luD8ibJFevA), Chaivut’s talk used his earlier work to show how stories are used. Storytelling is part of human nature, as we have always told stories for various reasons. Stories make a point, are memorable and meaningful, create and reveal emotions, and build connections. He explained the whys and whats of storytelling and talked about how to deliver a story.  The four steps of delivery discussed were:

  1. Give a beginning and end.
  2. Take the audience on a journey.
  3. Blend emotions and logic.
  4. Present in a way that engages the audience.

Students were given presentation details, including using the headings to make the main point, pacing, passion, and practice. The talk went even further with a closer look at four types of stories. Students were then asked to use these frames to retell the Orange Telecom advert. The chatter and energy showed a very engaged audience during the activity, learning that one story can be told in many ways.

Chaivut’s visit helps the students bridge the gap between school and work by allowing them to see how what is taught in class is used and interact with industry professionals.

We look forward to growing cooperation with industry professionals.
